Tympanometry
Tympanometry is a test that measures how your eardrum moves in response to sound and air pressure. It can help diagnose hearing loss, fluid, blockage, scarring and other middle ear issues.
To perform the test, a doctor inserts a probe into your ear canal that changes the air pressure and sends a tone to your eardrum. The probe records how your eardrum moves and the results are shown on a graph called a tympanogram.
Tympanometry is a simple and painless test that can be done in a doctor’s office. It is often used in children who may have fluid or infections in their middle ears that can affect their hearing and speech development.
